In a world far beyond our own, blue gnomes set out on a long and challenging journey, each one carrying with them a single wish—a wish for a safe, loving home where they could finally feel cared for and loved. Their journey, though difficult, was filled with hope—a hope that one day, they would find the love and safety they so deeply longed for. They did find what they were looking for, just take a peek through their family album!
Much like the blue gnomes, the children served by CASA-Voices for Children have embarked on their own difficult journeys. These children, too, are seeking a place where they can feel safe, loved, and valued. Their paths, often marked by instability, uncertainty, and hardship, are filled with challenges that no child should have to face. But much like the gnomes, these children carry with them an unyielding hope that one day, they will find the love and stability they deserve.
Just as the blue gnomes encounter kind-hearted souls along the way who offer them guidance and support, CASA volunteers stand by the children they serve, offering a steady presence and a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves. CASA volunteers walk beside these children through every hardship, advocating for their needs, and helping to ensure that their journey ends with a loving home where they can heal, grow, and thrive.
The parallel between the gnomes and the children is clear: both seek the same thing—love, safety, and the comfort of a home. The gnomes remind us that even in the face of struggles, hope can guide us forward. Similarly, the children of CASA-Voices for Children are not defined by their struggles but by their resilience and their unwavering desire for a brighter future.
Together, with the help of caring individuals and our community, these children’s journeys can end in the safety they’ve always dreamed of—a place where love is constant, and where they can finally find peace.

En toda nuestra comunidad, hay padres y cuidadores que pueden estar luchando por equilibrar el estrés de la vida diaria con el cuidado de un niño. Ya sea trabajando en múltiples trabajos tratando de poner comida en la mesa, lidiando con un trastorno por uso de sustancias, preguntándose de dónde vendrá el alquiler del próximo mes o descubriendo cómo lidiar con un revés financiero importante, equilibrando estas presiones con la paternidad y la carrera. En ocasiones, un hogar puede resultar muy difícil. Y con los efectos devastadores de COVID-19, más familias que nunca están luchando, con ansiedad por la salud, pérdida del trabajo, distanciamiento social, niños que no van a la escuela y otras consecuencias.
Lamentablemente, el estrés en sus muchas formas puede ser un factor que contribuya al abuso y la negligencia infantil. En CASA - Voices for Children, hemos visto esto una y otra vez con los niños y las familias a quienes servimos que están involucrados en el sistema de cuidado de crianza. El estrés es un subproducto natural de la paternidad, pero cuando esos estreses se combinan con ansiedades por cuestiones como las finanzas, la salud, el empleo o las relaciones, puede llegar a ser demasiado para una sola persona.
Si bien no hay excusa para el abuso o la negligencia, debemos comprender qué problemas subyacentes pueden causar que ocurra si nosotros, como comunidad, deseamos prevenirlo y ayudar a las familias a permanecer juntas de manera segura. Entonces, tal vez se esté preguntando, "¿Qué puedo hacer para ayudar?" Hay muchos esfuerzos que puede emprender para apoyar a las familias directamente y, si bien pueden parecer pequeños, pueden tener un efecto importante:

These small, whimsical creatures may not always be easy to spot. Known for their mischievous personalities and love for staying hidden, gnomes are experts at keeping out of sight. If you’re lucky enough to catch a glimpse of one, don’t be surprised if it’s shy at first. But with patience and kindness, a gnome may just choose you to be its new home—where it can continue to share its magical energy and playful spirit.
Throughout the month of April, the gnomes are waiting for you in various stores and businesses around Corvallis. They're hidden in secret spots (check the bottom of this page for some hints!) and if you’re fortunate enough to find one, consider giving it a loving home. These gnomes deserve a place where they can continue to spread joy, wisdom, and enchantment.
Go on a quest to find the gnome who needs you most. Will you be the one to give them the care and attention they’ve been seeking? Let the adventure begin, and may you be lucky enough to bring home a tiny protector, a clever inventor, or a mischievous friend.
The adventure doesn’t end here—each gnome comes with its own enchanting backstory! We’d love for you to share where your magical companion has found its forever home. Do you have a photo of it eagerly waiting in your backpack, ready for the school day ahead? Or perhaps it’s lending a hand in the garden? Maybe it loves listening to you read your favorite stories?
Capture its favorite spot to relax—does it snuggle under your blanket, hide in the closet, or sneak into your sock or shoe for a cozy nap? Or maybe it’s caught in the act of mischief—did it mess up your room, or eat all the pancakes? Every gnome is one-of-a-kind, with its own personality and quirks.
We’re excited to create a Gnome Family Album once all the gnomes have found their forever homes! So be sure to share your gnome’s adventures with us—whether through Facebook photos, or by emailing us at development@casa-vfc.org before May 5th.
